The Department of Design at IIT Delhi is set to launch a new four-year undergraduate degree programme, BTech in Design, starting from the 2025-26 academic year. Admissions for this innovative programme will be based on JEE Advanced marks and require passing the UCEED aptitude test.

This new programme aims to nurture empathetic and creative minds who are keen on understanding the socio-technical systems around them and designing solutions for the challenges within these systems. The BTech in Design will have a strong emphasis on product design and will prepare students to use design as a tool to address issues in both industry and society.

Prof. Jyoti Kumar, Head of the Department of Design, stated that the programme is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to take up leadership positions in various sectors including industry, academia, government, consulting, and entrepreneurship. The curriculum offers ample choices and freedom, allowing students to pursue diverse career paths.

The new BTech in Design programme is broad-based, similar to other existing programmes at IIT Delhi, and is aimed at creating leaders who can both see the big picture and delve into details as design specialists. The institute envisions producing graduates who can lead and innovate in the field of design, addressing complex problems with a comprehensive understanding and practical solutions.
