The Supreme Court of India has declared that the NEET UG 2024 results for 1,563 students who received grace marks will be nullified. These candidates are required to take a re-exam on June 23, 2024. This decision follows petitions challenging the legitimacy of the initial results.

Supreme Court's Decision

The Supreme Court has ruled that the NEET UG 2024 results for the 1,563 students who were given grace marks must be rescinded. Consequently, these students will sit for a re-exam. The re-exam results will be released by June 30, 2024. Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, who presided over the case, indicated that candidates would receive their actual scores without the added marks.

Reasoning and Re-exam Information

Following a meeting on June 10, 11, and 12, 2024, a committee recommended the cancellation of the scorecards for the 1,563 candidates due to suspicions of unfair practices. Thus, these students will undergo a re-exam. Justice Sandeep Mehta highlighted that providing two options—re-exam or using non-normalised scores—was inconsistent, necessitating the cancellation of results based on compensatory marks.

Counselling and Next Steps

In an earlier hearing on June 11, 2024, the Supreme Court declined to pause the NEET 2024 counselling. The National Testing Agency (NTA) reported 63 cases of unfair practices, resulting in the debarment of 23 students. The court underscored the importance of preserving the integrity of the exams.

Students from six exam centres who experienced time loss during the original exam can apply for the re-exam. The portal for re-exam applications will be reopened for those who did not initially approach the court.

This decision aims to uphold fairness and integrity in the NEET UG 2024 results.
